20:40 – Fernando Alonso has suggested that he would like to compete at next year’s Daytona 24 Hours, having renewed with McLaren in Formula 1 for a further campaign.

Alonso, alongside his Formula 1 exploits, made his debut at the Indianapolis 500 this year, qualifying fifth and running strongly, as part of his long-term goal to compete for the Triple Crown.

On Thursday, McLaren confirmed that it had reached an agreement with Alonso for 2018, before the Spaniard went on to reveal that the deal was for the long-term, rather than just a single year.

Alonso has ruled out competing at next year’s Indianapolis 500 but has hinted that he would like to try his hand at the iconic Daytona endurance event in January.
