17:24 – Formula 1’s sporting chief, Ross Brawn, reckons the Mercedes “steamroller” effect will continue in 2018, amid relatively stable regulations.

Mercedes has enjoyed four successive double title-winning seasons, and won 63 out of 79 races, since the introduction of 1.6-litre V6 turbo power units in 2014.

New aerodynamic regulations for 2017 brought Ferrari into play, but Mercedes got on top of its ‘diva’ W08 to pull clear in both championship battles.

It also dealt with the exit of World Champion Nico Rosberg and a major management change, with Paddy Lowe leaving for Williams and James Allison arriving from Ferrari.
