15:48 – The British Racing Drivers’ Club has elected Paddy Hopkirk as its new President, as successor to Derek Warwick.

Warwick was appointed as President of the BRDC, which owns British Grand Prix venue Silverstone, in 2011, but opted not to stand for another term.

At the BRDC’s Annual General Meeting, held at Silverstone, 84-year-old Hopkirk was elected as Warwick’s successor.

Rally legend Hopkirk has been a BRDC member since 1965, held a Director’s post for nine years, and has been a Vice President of the organisation since 2006.

Warwick, who received a standing ovation from members, remains a key part of the BRDC after being elected as a Vice President.
