Pascal Wehrlein has been declared fit to return to the Sauber seat for the Bahrain Grand Prix.

The German opted to withdraw from the season-opening Australian Grand Prix and then missed the Chinese Grand Prix due a “training defecit” that came as a result of the back injury he sustained at the Race of Champions event back in January.

Ferrari test driver Antonio Giovinazzi has stood in during Wehrlein’s absense, but he undid a lot of the hard work he produced in Melbourne with two costly crashes in Shanghai.

Bahrain will represent Wehrlein’s first race for Sauber after joining from the now-defunct Manor over the winter.
