McLaren team boss Eric Boullier has further heaped pressure on Honda by blasting the failure of Fernando Alonso’s engine as “absolutely not good enough.” The failure comes in a week where McLaren CEO Zak Brown has already criticised Honda’s 2017 effort said that “we have a plan B, we have a plan C, we’ve got plans,” if the position of Honda becomes untenable and they are forced to search for a new engine provider.

The failure came as Alonso was set to claim McLaren’s first points of the season, lying tenth with only two laps remaining. However, it was not to be as Alonso eventually retired from the race, with teammate Stoffel Vandoorne only managing to claim 14th in Canada with the Honda engine proving both noncompetitive and unreliable.
