Renault boss Cyril Abiteboul has said Formula 1 has ultimately lost its “DNA” and it needs to be rediscovered.

New regulations to try and help more overtaking opportunities have been fast-tracked for next season, while the 2021 vision set out by Liberty and the FIA continues to be fine-tuned.

But Abiteboul believes the sport is losing its identity in the midst of other racing series playing to their major strengths.

“We can’t just mix it all up,” Abiteboul told Speed Week.

“The life of the engine, the durability of tyres, the amount of fuel, this is for me no part of the Formula 1 DNA.
