Coming so close to scoring his first podium of this season with a win at Silverstone, Ross Brawn felt Sunday’s race was a reminder of how good Charles Leclerc is.

Leclerc hasn’t had much opportunity to show his championship-winning credentials over the past two seasons – Ferrari’s fault, not the driver’s.

While he did grab pole positions in Monaco and again in Azerbaijan, he didn’t take the start at his home race due to a cracked left-rear driveshaft hub, while in the chaos of Baku he dropped to fourth place.

Despite arriving at Silverstone without a single top-three to his name, he came close to bagging his first podium of this season with a race win, leading from laps 1 to 49 only to be passed by Lewis Hamilton with three to go.
