Max Verstappen felt unthreatened by the possibility of rain during Saturday’s qualifying after topping both of Friday’s practice sessions at the Canadian Grand Prix.

The Dutchman topped FP1 for the first time since the opening race in Bahrain before repeating the feat in the second session of the day.

With Charles Leclerc receiving a 10-place grid penalty, and a possibility of more, Verstappen’s early pace is a promising sign for his title credentials.

One issue that could arise is the weather with a deluge of rain hitting the track shortly after the conclusion of FP2, which is expected to continue until qualifying.
