Following the unanimous decision by the FIA Contract Recognition Board that Piastri’s deal with McLaren was his only valid contract for 2023, the Woking based team confirmed that the reigning Formula 2 champion will partner Lando Norris following Daniel Ricciardo’s departure at the end of the season.
The confirmation put to bed the contract saga between Piastri, McLaren and Alpine. The latter announced Piastri would be racing for the team next year the day after Fernando Alonso announced his exit, only for Piastri to deny he would be racing for the team next year.
